Pico's Pack is a volunteer partnership between Serbia and the U.K. working to care for the abandoned and abused street dogs of Belgrade. These dogs live by busy roads, on residential streets, in carparks, warehouses and even on wasteland. Sadly, most people are not concerned for their welfare. There is little sympathy if the dogs are hit by cars. Others actively seek to poison, torture and abuse them.
There are currently around 130 dogs being looked after by Mira and her team Gile and Nikola at the Sanctuary. Here, they are housed in secure land where they are given food, shelter, medical care and lots of love.
Some are cared for on the streets by Ivica. Ivica drives around the suburbs of the city to feed the dogs before and after work. These dogs are reliant on him for food and friendship, and in some cases, urgent medical attention.
Worryingly, the number of dogs being sent to Pico’s continues to rise. Puppies and dogs are frequently abandoned anonymously at the front door. Most of the dogs arrive in very poor health; some are malnourished, many have fleas and skin conditions, and some have life threatening diseases.
The majority of dogs CAN be saved, and are nursed back to full health.
The U.K. Support Team works hard behind the scenes, focusing on fundraising and sharing our activities across social media and our website. Where funds allow, we pay for dogs to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and micro-chipped in order to get them ready for adoption to find their forever home.
Our aim is to re-home as many dogs as possible in order to provide them with the love and affection they deserve, as well as care for the remaining dogs that will sadly never be able to make the journey.
Without your financial support, Pico’s Pack would not be able to continue the work we do. This is where we need YOUR help.
